Try A Trade

Windale Shed has been invited to participate in the TRY A TRADE program during the last three years. Two events are held each year to cater for the secondary schools located in both council areas, Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. Try A Trade is organised by a committee comprising of a funded coordinator and members of the Windale Men’s Shed, CAREERLINK, TAFE, Rotary and participating schools’ career advisors. The first of the Try a Trade days was scheduled for 2007 with the inaugural event being held on Friday May 4th 2007.  The Shed and the function hall of the PCYC provided the suitable areas for displays of the high number of career related activities to be demonstrated.

TRY A TRADE programs are designed to provide the maximum information and hands on experience for years nine and ten students.. It's aimed at  motivating students to seek information about future career choices and to encourage them to gain the best possible school education to enable them to have that choice. Students are given a “hands on” opportunity to try a variety of trades under the supervision of qualified professional trades people, apprentices and TAFE teachers.
