Experienced Office Furniture - 2014
13 Bindera Rd Lambton Ph 49521555
Due to the need to improve the quality for seating at meetins etc, we went about getting prices for office style chairs for the meeting room and found that we couldn't afford the prices for office chairs - even second hand. However, we visited Experienced Office Furniture at Lambton and identified chairs at a more reasonable cost and sought to discuss "the best price" for our men's shed with the management. We were very pleasently surprised by the response to our request and purchased six good quality office chairs, with arm rests, for a total cost that we could well afford which included two fold-up tables.
We are most gtateful for the friendly service and support given by the staff which is destined to carry on, thanks to the assurance of the Sales Manager.
Concrush Pty Ltd - 2014
One of the mid year projects is to complete a planned Commemorative Garden in recognition of past deceased members. We are very grateful to Concrush for assisting us with this and other worthy projects as they occur, as It is only with such support from the business sector that allows organisations such as ours to fulfill our vision.
Bunnings Hardware & Harvey Norman Electrical
We wish to acknowledge the above two companies for providing the opportunity for fund raising for the shed in terms of regular on-site BBQs. The assistance given is most valuable and supports the viability for the association.
Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations (DEEWR)
The Windale Men’s Shed & Community Group Inc received a very nice surprise today in the form of a cheque from the staff of the Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations (DEEWR)to the value of $293.50.
The office staff of about 26 contributes to a personal project by donating a gold coin to assist local based charities at Christmas time each year. This year they identified the Windale Men’s Shed as one of the recipients to benefit from their unselfish action. Roger & Paul attended the office in Charlestown to receive the cheque from General Manager Lynne where a number of photo opportunities took place.
We wish to express our sincere thanks for considering the Shed this year and for their generosity.

Commonwealth Bank Donation - 2012
In May 2012 we were fortunate enough to be selected by the then Manager, and staff, of the Charlestown Branch of the Commonwealth Bank as the recipient of an award for goods to the value of $1000.00 as part of the Bank’s celebration of 100 years as a financial institute in Australia. As a result, we were donated four very good quality office chairs for the new office space created by the recent extension to the shed building.
A big 'thank you' goes to branch and staff for their community support and for identifying the Windale men's shed as part of their celebrations.
Safe n Sound Storage - Since 2012
The Windale men's shed historically administerd a central storage area for sheds within the area so that donated equipment and material can be safely stored for distribution to other men's sheds, especially those in the develoment stage. However, the facility being used became unavailable in 2012 with an additional site being difficult to achieve.
Thankfully, the management of Safe 'n' SOUND SELF STORAGE offered to fill the gap for the 'off site' storage reqirement and has made available one of the storage facilities at their Kotara location at no cost to the association thereby providing ongoing storage space for equipment etc to facilitate the community and shed needs.
We wish to express our gratitude to the management and staff at S 'n' S Kotara for their ongoing cooperation and understanding of the storage needs for men's sheds, not only for their professional and efficient manner in initaly finalising the arrangements, but how the arrangement is favourably reviewed at "no cost" to the assosciation.

CHARTER HALL 2017-20187-2018
We have been fortunate to be invited to operate with the support of the management from Lake Macquarie Fair, CHARTER HALL in terms of fund raising activities. Initially we provided small timber Christmas tree decorations at the centre for children to paint and take home right up to the 2017 Christmas with further activities being planned for both inside and outside of the centre. This partnership is very much welcomed by the association as it is aimed at assisting us with an opportunity to replace the very tired Toyota van we are using for other fund raising activities and assisting he community.
We are very excited for this opportunity to further progress the Windale Men's Shed so that we can continue to be an active charity within the area. Further information relevant to 'coming events' will be posted here and on Facebook as it developes.
We have been successful with a "Volunteers-Small Equipment" grant during 2017 which assisted with the installation of security cameras at the shed as well as the purchase of some hand tools etc. We have also applied for a significant grant through the State Governments Community Building Partnerships to assist with a major review of equipment and the shed's floor plan. The succesful applicants have not been announced at the time of this post.
FEDERAL GRANT FOR WINDALE MEN'S SHED
The Federal Member for Shortland, Jill Hall MP, welcomed a $376,011 grant over three years to assist with the establishment and sustainability of men's sheds in the Lake Macquarie and the broader Hunter Valley areas. The Windale Men's Shed Project, which was initially auspiced by CatholicCare in Newcastle, conducts social and community activities for mature aged men in Windale and the broader community with a view to assisting those who may benefit from the experience and skills gained by the members.
The Windale shed has been able to gain monetary assistance from the grant to support an existing program for the men's shed movement within the area, including a central storage facility where sheds can either store tools and equipment for later use or select from a store of excess tools/equipment to assist establishment, at no cost. This latest decision by FaHCSIA (the funding body) regognisers and complements the previous work by members of the Windale men's shed by providing them with the leading role in terms of the Shed Mentoring Project. Funding for this project expires on 30 June 2014.
We have also been successful in achieving a State Government grant for an extension to our building which was completed early in 2013. The extension has provided a very satifactory administration room where the necessary phone calls and bean counting can be done witin a more quiuter environment and a multi purpose room for meetings, enclosed storage, inductions, reading etc. Fitting out the extensions was completed by the members in terms of painting, floor covering and cupboards. A job well done by all concerned.
There are three main Shed activities for members involvement, wood work, metal fabrication and small motors. Members are also active from time to time in outdoor activities to assist with local community projects and for fundraising activities, such as selling raffle tickets and holding BBQs.
THE PERIOD FOR THIS GRANT TERMINATED IN jUNE 2014
